Panchang Timing for Shubh Vivah
A Vivah Muhurat is the auspicious date and time window selected through Vedic Panchang analysis for a Hindu marriage. All five Panchang elements — Tithi, Vara, Nakshatra, Yoga, and Karana — must be auspicious simultaneously for a true Shubh Muhurat.
The timing of a ceremony matters in Vedic tradition because planetary and lunar cycles influence the energy of new beginnings. Choosing a Muhurat carefully means avoiding inauspicious periods that classical texts identify — including Guru Asta (Jupiter combustion), Shukra Asta (Venus combustion), and Khar Maas.
Tithi: Auspicious — 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th, 11th, 13th of Shukla Paksha. Avoid 4th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 12th, 14th, Amavasya, Purnima. Vara: Best — Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Avoid Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday. Nakshatra: Best — Rohini, Mrigashira, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Anuradha, Swati, Revati. Avoid Mula, Jyeshtha, Ashlesha, Ardra. Yoga: Avoid Vishkambha, Atiganda, Vyatipata, Vaidhriti, Parigha. Karana: Avoid Vishti (Bhadra) Karana strictly.
Guru Asta: Jupiter combust — marriage avoided as Jupiter is the primary benefic for Vivah. Shukra Asta: Venus combust — Venus is the Karaka of marriage; its combustion reduces auspiciousness. Khar Maas: Solar month of Sagittarius (mid-Dec to mid-Jan) — traditional restriction across North and Central India. Adhik Maas: Leap month in the Hindu lunar calendar — all auspicious ceremonies postponed.
