Vivah Muhurat Guide

Auspicious marriage dates based on Vedic Panchang — Nakshatra, Tithi, Vara, and Lagna

A Vivah Muhurat is an auspicious time window chosen by a Jyotishi using the Vedic Panchang. It considers the positions of the Moon (Nakshatra), the lunar day (Tithi), day of the week (Vara), and the rising sign at the time of marriage (Lagna). Choosing the right Muhurat is believed to bring harmony, prosperity, and longevity to the marriage.

What Makes a Good Muhurat?

🌙

Nakshatra

The Moon must be in an auspicious Nakshatra. Best: Rohini, Mrigashirsha, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada, Revati, Anuradha, Hasta, Swati.

📅

Tithi (Lunar Day)

Shubh Tithis for Vivah: 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 11, 13 of Shukla Paksha (waxing moon). Avoid: Ashtami (8th), Chaturdashi (14th), and Amavasya (new moon).

📆

Vara (Day of Week)

Best days: Monday (Moon), Wednesday (Mercury), Thursday (Jupiter), Friday (Venus). Avoid: Tuesday (Mars — Manglik issues), Saturday (Saturn delays).

🌅

Lagna (Rising Sign)

The Lagna at the moment of Vivah should be strong and unafflicted. Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) as Vivah Lagna bring stability.

🚫

Avoid Periods

Kharmas (Sun in Sagittarius or Pisces), Chaturmas (monsoon Ashad to Kartik), Adhik Maas (extra lunar month), periods of Rahu Kaal and Gulika.

Most Auspicious

Akshaya Tritiya (Akha Teej) and Dev Uthani Ekadashi are the two most auspicious days — any time on these days is Muhurat-free (self-auspicious).
